In addition to being involved in a small group, having a personal Christian counselor is an important component to healing. For many, it is not until they “go to counseling” that they experienced powerful and lasting change in their lives. One-on-one counseling provides the opportunity for you to be completely open and honest in an confidential environment.
Choosing the right counselor is not easy, but if you are persistent, God will show you the way. Here are some tips for finding a counselor:
- Pray and ask God to lead you to a counselor that is right for you. You may still have to visit one or more to decide, so don't give up in the process.
- Consider investing the money you would spend on other things to pay the co-pay or fee involved. Ask the Lord to provide for you financially.
- Seek a Christian counselor who shares your view about sexuality. Ask them outright what they believe. Don't waste your time on a counselor who will lead you away from your personal goals.
- Consider online or phone counseling if you cannot find a counselor in your area.
